The opening of this fifth album by the Rideouts, a band led by Trieste native Max Scherbi with a history spanning over twenty years, has a great funk rock vibe, somewhere between Lenny Kravitz and the Black Crowes. Fittingly enough, the second track is called Superfunky Love, and partly due to the title’s similarity and partly because of the excellent horn section, it immediately brings to mind none other than Morphine’s Super Sex

The Rideouts stay true to their well-established style, inspired by the music of the late '60s and '70s but strongly characterized by a modern and original vision/"revision" that has set them apart since their debut. This style was born from Scherbi's long stays in England, where he sought out the roots of his idols and artistic influences. It’s fair to expect many more surprising innovations from this prolific band in the future

The Rideouts' offering proves to be meticulously crafted down to the smallest details. Undeniably impactful, their songs are immediate—rock, pop—and then there’s the moniker Rideout, which has jazz origins. It’s a project that contains multitudes

The new album The Journey is further enriched by the presence of the Kick Horns brass section, the same horns featured on Steel Wheels by the Rolling Stones or About Face by David Gilmour, to name just a few of their countless collaborations (including Blur, Primal Scream, and more). This addition takes the new record firmly into '70s black music territory, as perfectly demonstrated by a track like Superfunky Love

The Rideouts return with their new single Perfect Man, three years after their album Magic World, and are gearing up for the release of their new album on November 15. A preview, then, of a work that raises the band’s quality bar even higher, blending elements of pop, rock, and funk tradition. To delight us already in the single Perfect Man, the Kick Horns were brought on board—renowned for their collaborations with luminaries such as the Rolling Stones, Beyoncé, and Eric Clapton

I was just thinking that it has been a while since I heard an old school rock meets funk groove when along came The Rideouts with “Perfect Man”. Female vocals, suitably supportive guitars and a horn section make it all happen
